BigCommerce vs Sellfy: one plan upgrades itself when you sell more

OUR PICK

Our pick: Sellfy — $22 a month against BigCommerce's $29, and a price that stays where you put it however much you sell.

Read from both pricing pages on 2026-08-27. Sellfy Starter is $22 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly) and nothing on its page links the plan to sales volume. BigCommerce Core is $29 a month billed annually and carries an explicit ceiling: 'Up to $30K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Growth.' Sell $31,000 in a year and the $29 becomes $79 — a $600-a-year increase triggered by success rather than by a decision. At the Scale tier there is a second meter on top: a $33,333/month GMV cap with 0.9% charged above it.

The other way: Pick BigCommerce if you are building a real storefront rather than selling a handful of products. Its ladder exists because it is aimed at businesses growing toward $1M in annual sales, and the plan that upgrades itself is also the plan that keeps working at that volume — Sellfy publishes nothing above $119 a month and every one of its tiers is a 'Starting from' price with no stated ceiling either way. BigCommerce also advertises 'Zero fees with Embedded Payment Providers' on every tier and 24/7 live phone support from Growth up, and its 0.9% overage only bites above $400,000 a year in sales.

How to read this page: every number below was read from the vendor’s own public pricing page on the date shown, and the pages are re-checked daily. Currencies differ because that is what each vendor showed an EU visitor. Some links on this page are affiliate links — if you subscribe through one we earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Per our method, that never changes a number or a verdict. Source links always point to the vendor’s plain page.

What the record says

Most pricing pages ask you to pick a plan. BigCommerce's picks for you, and it says so on the card. Core is described as being for 'New businesses with up to $30K in annual sales', and directly beneath the $29 price sits the line 'Up to $30K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Growth.' Growth carries the same construction: 'Up to $100K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Scale.' TTM is trailing twelve months, so this is not a projection — it is a rolling measurement of what you have already sold.

Follow that through and the cost curve is steep. A shop doing $29,000 a year pays $29 a month, or $348. Cross into $31,000 and it pays $79 a month, $948 — an extra $600 a year triggered by $2,000 of extra sales. Cross $100,000 and it becomes $299 a month, $3,588 a year. None of those steps require you to click anything, and none of them are hidden: BigCommerce prints all three thresholds on the plan cards. But they are the sort of thing that gets left out of a comparison table, and they matter more than the headline price.

Sellfy's page has no equivalent mechanism anywhere on it. Starter is $22 a month billed yearly, Business $59, Premium $119, and nothing on the page ties any of them to how much you sell. Every tier is published as 'Starting from', so the figures are floors that can rise with usage — we are not claiming the bill is immovable — but the specific structure where revenue triggers a plan change does not exist here.

The annual discounts are almost identical and both are honest. Sellfy's switch says 'Yearly (save 25%)' and delivers 24.1%, 25.3% and 25.2% across its three tiers. BigCommerce's badge says 'Save 25%' and, on the one tier where it publishes both figures, delivers 25.06% — Scale at $399 monthly against $299 annually. After a long run of vendors whose discount claims did not survive checking, both of these do.

There is a second BigCommerce meter worth knowing about before you reach it. Scale carries a $33,333 per month GMV cap with '0.9% on GMV above cap'. That works out to $400,000 a year, above which every extra dollar of sales carries a 0.9% charge. It is worth being precise about what that is not: BigCommerce separately advertises 'Zero fees with Embedded Payment Providers' on every tier, so the 0.9% is a platform charge on volume rather than a payment-processing fee. At $600,000 of annual sales it adds about $1,800 a year on top of the $3,588 plan price.

Neither page tells the whole story, and the gaps are in different places. We could not actuate BigCommerce's Pay Monthly control, so the monthly-billed rates for Core and Growth are not quoted above — the only monthly figure we publish for BigCommerce is Scale's $399, which the page states in its own text. Sellfy's 'Starting from' labelling means its published prices are floors without a stated ceiling. In both cases we have quoted what the page says and left the rest blank rather than filling it in from a discount badge.

The two products are also aimed at different people, which the prices reflect more honestly than most comparisons admit. Sellfy tops out at $119 a month and badges its entry tier 'Creators favorite'. BigCommerce's ladder runs to a Performance tier at 'starting at $1,499 per month, billed annually' and describes its plans in terms of businesses heading toward and past $1M in annual sales. A creator selling digital downloads and a retailer running a catalogue are not choosing between the same two things.

So the verdict depends on a question the pricing pages answer better than any feature list: do you want the bill to follow your revenue or not? If you are small and want to stay predictable, Sellfy is cheaper at the entry point and stays put. If you are heading for six figures, BigCommerce's automatic ladder is at least printed on the card, and the tier you will end up on is the one built for that volume.

Beyond the price tag

The plan that upgrades itself

BigCommerce Core states 'Up to $30K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Growth' and Growth states 'Up to $100K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Scale'. Crossing $30,000 in trailing-twelve-month sales moves you from $348 a year to $948 without any decision on your part. Sellfy's page carries no revenue-linked mechanism at all.

A second meter above $400K

BigCommerce Scale carries a $33,333/month GMV cap with 0.9% charged on GMV above it — roughly $1,800 a year on $600,000 of sales, on top of the $3,588 plan. It is a platform charge on volume, not payment processing: every tier separately advertises 'Zero fees with Embedded Payment Providers'.

Two annual discounts that both check out

Sellfy's 'Yearly (save 25%)' delivers 24.1%, 25.3% and 25.2% — $22 vs $29, $59 vs $79, $119 vs $159. BigCommerce's 'Save 25%' delivers 25.06% on the one tier publishing both figures, Scale at $299 annually against $399 monthly. We could not actuate BigCommerce's Pay Monthly control, so no monthly figure is quoted for Core or Growth.

Questions people actually search

Does BigCommerce really change my plan automatically?

That is what its own plan cards say. Core reads 'Up to $30K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Growth' and Growth reads 'Up to $100K TTM GMV; plan auto-upgrades to Scale'. TTM is trailing twelve months, so it is measured on sales you have already made. Crossing $30,000 takes you from $348 a year to $948.

What is the 0.9% on BigCommerce Scale?

A platform charge on sales above a ceiling. Scale carries a '$33,333/month GMV' cap — $400,000 a year — with 0.9% charged on everything above it. It is not payment processing: every tier separately advertises 'Zero fees with Embedded Payment Providers'. On $600,000 of annual sales it adds roughly $1,800 to the $3,588 plan price.

Which is cheaper to start with?

Sellfy. Starter is $22 a month billed yearly, or $264 a year, against BigCommerce Core at $29 a month billed annually, $348. The more important difference is what happens next: Sellfy's price does not move with your sales, and BigCommerce's is designed to.

Are the annual discounts genuine on both?

Yes, which is not something we can say about every vendor. Sellfy's 'save 25%' delivers 24.1%, 25.3% and 25.2% across its three tiers. BigCommerce's 'Save 25%' delivers 25.06% on Scale, the one tier where its page publishes both a monthly and an annual figure.

Why don't you list BigCommerce's monthly prices?

Because we could not read them. The page opens on Pay Annually and its Pay Monthly control did not respond in our reads. We could have divided the annual figures by 0.75 using the 'Save 25%' badge, but that would be a guess presented as a price. The one monthly figure we publish, $399 for Scale, is stated in BigCommerce's own page text.

THE VERDICT, ONE MORE TIME

Every figure above was read from each vendor's own pricing page in a browser on 2026-08-27. Sellfy's monthly and yearly states were both captured by clicking its billing switch. BigCommerce's page opens on Pay Annually and its Pay Monthly control could not be actuated in our reads, so only annual figures are published for Core, Growth and Performance; the single BigCommerce monthly rate quoted — $399 for Scale — is taken from the page's own statement 'Starting at $399/month (or $299/month billed annually)' rather than inferred from the 25% badge. The GMV thresholds, auto-upgrade language and the 0.9% overage are quoted verbatim from the plan cards. Sellfy publishes every tier as 'Starting from', so its figures are floors. Both vendors returned US dollars, and BigCommerce states its prices exclude tax. We hold no affiliate relationship with either company and no tracking link appears on this page. The method →
