Sensei LMS vs Teachable: $179 a year against $39 a month — and the two figures are not the same kind of number
How to read this page: every number below was read from the vendor’s own public pricing page on the date shown, and the pages are re-checked daily. Currencies differ because that is what each vendor showed an EU visitor. Some links on this page are affiliate links — if you subscribe through one we earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Per our method, that never changes a number or a verdict. Source links always point to the vendor’s plain page.

Source: https://teachable.com/pricing · read 2026-09-01 (UTC) · Three published tiers, and unusually the page shows both billing figures on the same card — the monthly rate and the annual equivalent with 'Billed annually' beneath it — so nothing has to be clicked to compare them. Annual saves 25.6% on Starter, 22.5% on Builder and 26.5% on Growth, and the page advertises no single headline percentage, which is consistent with the savings differing by tier. Read in a browser on the date shown above with the billing switch clicked.
Teachable quotes USD worldwide — identical figures from our United States, United Kingdom and EU readers, read 2026-09-01.
What the record says
The first thing to settle is what each price is per. Sensei prints $15 a month beside Sensei Pro, and it is not a monthly price. The word 'monthly' does not appear anywhere on Sensei's pricing page and there is no billing toggle: every paid product is an annual licence, and the per-month figure is that licence divided out. What you are actually charged is $179, once a year.
Teachable's $39 is a monthly price in our record — a month-to-month rate. Teachable does offer annual billing, but our reading of its pricing page did not capture the annual figure, so this page does not print one. Where we set the two against each other we use $468, which is twelve months at Teachable's month-to-month rate, and we label it as exactly that rather than as Teachable's annual price.
That is the whole of the price story, and it is why a headline comparison between these two is so easy to get wrong. One vendor's per-month number is an annual rate wearing a monthly label. The other's is a real monthly rate whose annual equivalent we have not read. Neither is dishonest on the vendor's part; both are the kind of thing that turns into a wrong answer when a comparison page treats two numbers as interchangeable because they share a suffix.
Underneath the pricing, the arrangement differs more than the money does. Sensei Pro is a plugin for a WordPress site you host, and its selling features run through WooCommerce — the checkout is yours, on your domain. Teachable hosts the course, the pages and the payment flow. The Sensei price therefore sits on top of hosting you are already buying, and the Teachable price includes it. Any honest total cost for Sensei has a hosting line in it that this page cannot fill in, because it depends on where you host.
Sensei also has a free tier that is not a trial. Sensei Free publishes unlimited courses with a certificate builder, basic quizzes and its distraction-free learning mode, and the vendor states plainly that it does not offer a free trial because the free plugin serves that purpose. Our Teachable record holds no free tier. If you want to build a course before spending anything, that asymmetry matters more than the headline prices do.
One more thing Sensei sells separately: Interactive Blocks at $60 a year, which its page says does not require Sensei LMS at all. It is a content plugin rather than a course platform, and it is priced as one — worth knowing so it is not mistaken for a cheaper tier of the same product.
Beyond the price tag
What the price is per
Sensei: an annual licence. $179 for Sensei Pro, printed on the page as $15 a month. There is no month-to-month option — the word 'monthly' appears nowhere on the pricing page. Teachable: $39 a month, month-to-month, in our record.
Twelve months, compared honestly
Sensei Pro: $179, which is what the vendor charges. Teachable Starter: $468, which is twelve months at its monthly rate and not Teachable's own annual price — we have not read that figure and do not print it.
What you have to already own
Sensei needs a WordPress site you host. Teachable hosts everything. The Sensei price sits on top of a hosting bill this page cannot size for you; the Teachable price does not.
Where the money changes hands
Sensei Pro sells courses through WooCommerce on your own site, so the checkout is yours. Teachable runs the checkout. Our record holds no transaction-fee figure for either vendor, so this page states none.
Free tier
Sensei Free is a real free plan — unlimited courses, certificate builder, basic quizzes, learning mode — and the vendor says it exists instead of a free trial. No free tier is recorded for Teachable.
The other Sensei products
Interactive Blocks at $60 a year is a standalone plugin the vendor says does not require Sensei LMS. Sensei Agency at $360 licenses Pro and Interactive Blocks across up to 20 sites or one Multisite network. Neither is a cheaper tier of Sensei Pro.
Questions people actually search
Is Sensei cheaper than Teachable?
On the figures we hold, substantially: $179 a year against $468 for twelve months of Teachable Starter at its monthly rate. The honest qualification is that Sensei's price assumes you are already paying to host a WordPress site and Teachable's includes hosting, so the true gap is narrower than the two numbers suggest by whatever your hosting costs.
Sensei's page says $15 a month. Can I pay monthly?
No. Sensei sells annual licences only — there is no billing toggle on its pricing page and the word 'monthly' does not appear on it once. The per-month figure is $179 divided across the year. What you pay is the annual amount, up front.
Why is there no Teachable annual price on this page?
Because we have not read one. Teachable offers annual billing; our capture of its pricing page holds the monthly rates only. Multiplying a monthly rate by twelve gives a figure we calculated, not one Teachable charges, so where we do that we label it as twelve months at the monthly rate.
Can I try either free?
Sensei, yes — Sensei Free publishes unlimited courses, and the vendor states it offers no free trial precisely because the free plugin is the trial. Our record holds no free tier for Teachable.
THE VERDICT, ONE MORE TIME
Our pick on price alone: Sensei Pro at $179 a year against $468 for twelve months of Teachable Starter at its month-to-month rate — but read the basis note before treating that as a like-for-like.
Sensei Pro is sold as an annual licence at $179, printed on its page as $15 a month. Teachable Starter is $39 a month in our record, which over twelve months at that rate is $468. The two are far enough apart that the ordering survives any reasonable annual discount Teachable might offer — but the Sensei figure buys a plugin for a site you already run and pay for, and the Teachable figure buys the site as well.
Sensei's figures were read from senseilms.com/pricing on 2026-09-01. The absence of any monthly option there is a read finding, not an inference: the string 'monthly' appears zero times on that page and there is no billing toggle, so every per-month figure quoted here is an annual licence divided by twelve. Teachable's monthly figures come from our daily record; its annual pricing is not in it, which is why no Teachable annual price appears above. The method →
