This is one of the most-searched email tool comparisons, and most articles about it recycle feature checklists. The pricing pages themselves tell a sharper story.
Mailchimp prices by contact band, and the ladder below is the lowest of sixteen bands running from 0-500 up past 130,000: Essentials €11.22 a month, Standard €17.27, Premium €302.17. Every tier also caps your monthly sends at a multiple of your contacts — 10x on Essentials, 12x on Standard, 15x on Premium — with overage charges if you exceed it. When we read this page on 26 August, every paid plan carried a 50%-off-for-12-months promotion; on 27 August that promotion was gone from Essentials and Standard, and only Premium still showed an introductory rate, at €256.84 a month for twelve months against a standing €302.17. That is roughly 15% off, not 50%. We are reporting a change between two consecutive daily reads, not a claim about what Mailchimp will do next.
GetResponse's page has no promo theatre: a slider sets your list size and the price updates — €16/month for Starter at 1,000 contacts, €54 for Marketer, €62 for Creator, minus 18% on annual billing. Every plan sends unlimited emails. The trade: there is no permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial, where Mailchimp keeps a genuine (if tight) free tier under 250 contacts.
The month-13 question still applies, but on one plan rather than three. Premium is the only Mailchimp tier we could see carrying an introductory rate on 27 August: €256.84 a month for twelve months, then €302.17 — a rise of €45.33 a month you agree to at signup. Essentials and Standard now show their standing price directly, which is a straightforward improvement in how that page reads. Whatever GetResponse quoted you is simply the price on every plan. If you mail your list often, Mailchimp's send multiplier is the number to check first: a 2,000-contact list on Essentials caps at 20,000 sends a month, and GetResponse has no such ceiling.
One honesty note on currencies: Mailchimp showed us dollars and GetResponse showed us euros (both as served to an EU visitor). We record what the pages say and refuse to fake a conversion — check both in your own currency before deciding.

GetResponse bundles more into one subscription: landing pages on every plan, webinars and a website builder in higher tiers. Mailchimp leans on its ecosystem instead — a large marketplace of integrations, plus the familiar brand most tools connect to first.
Ease of getting started
Mailchimp is famously beginner-friendly and most guides on the internet assume it. GetResponse's interface is denser but nothing a first-timer can't handle in an afternoon.
